Alex Cartwright
Age: 286 (Born 1731)

Based on the World of Darkness Vampires the Masquerade publication and Being Human (US Television Series).

Alex Cartwright was born in the British Province of New York 1731.  His parents were killed during a slave riot when he was 11 that left dozens dead and several homes burnt to the ground.

With no child services back then, Alex became a street urchin and thief before he was picked up by a Lenape tribe and learned several skills that earned him the nickname Kinanike or he who has sharp teeth.

In the 1770's, General George Washington made a push on New York and was driven back to Manhattan.  When the British Royal Army moved to take Manhattan from him, Alex was part of the regiment that attacked and was crucial in cutting off Washington's escape to Delaware, forcing him further West.  He was gunned down in the Hudson River near where the North Manhattan Bridge now stands.

A soldier by the name of Diedrich Farnsworth pulled his body from the river and turned him into what he is now.

Today, Alex is a New York City Police Detective and partnered with the Vampire Bishop of Manhattan, Detective Gordon Wyatt.  Together they keep the vampire community in line and out of the public eye, maintaining the veil of secrecy that's remained in tact for centuries.

Personality:

Alex is, for the lack of a better term, insane.  While he is an incredibly powerful Vampire and older than most in charge, he doesn't take a role of leadership seriously and has no interest in being in charge.  Among his powers to disappear and duplicate himself, he is also a master of Domination and can even coerce a target into committing suicide with but a word.  His insanity, though, stems from his bloodline and he usually hides it well; acting more as an immature man-child than a stark-raving mad lunatic.  A lot of his dialogue is often rife with pop culture and is always quick with making light of even the most severe of situations.  Despite his disability he is mostly respected by his peers and is often viewed as an amusing respite to an otherwise dim world.  However, it's often difficult to tell when a line is crossed and his demeanor rarely changes between moods.
